‘Not a book review‘ is the series I was talking about in a previous blog post, what happened to our good old reading habits. Thank you for your feedback on starting this series about my favorite books.
There can not be a better reason to start the series!
In this series I will share few words, sentences and lines from books that made its mark on my mind.
Today I will share some beautiful lines from the book ‘To kill a mockingbird.’
A little about this book:

To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel that revolves around a small family of three — Atticus Finch, an attorney, and his two children, Scout and Jem. The main plot of the book is around a trial in which Atticus defends Tom Robinson, a black man, who has been accused of having molested a white girl, Mayella Ewell. This is a great tale full of dramatic events and fresh perspectives on prejudices, attitudes and values.

My favorite lines from the book:
(1)
“Atticus said to Jem one day, “I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the backyard, but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” That was the only time I ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something, and I asked Miss Maudie about it. “Your father’s right,” she said. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing except make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corn cribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
~Harper Lee

(2)
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view. Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”
~Harper Lee

(3)
“They’re certainly entitled to think that, and they’re entitled to full respect for their opinions. But before I can live with other folks I’ve got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience.”
~Harper Lee

(4)
“Atticus told me to delete the adjectives and I’d have the facts.”
~Harper Lee

(5)
“You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ’em get your goat. Try fightin’ with your head for a change.”
~Harper Lee
To Kill a Mockingbird
(6)
“If there’s just one kind of folks, why can’t they get along with each other? If they’re all alike, why do they go out of their way to despise each other? Scout, I think I’m beginning to understand something. I think I’m beginning to understand why Boo Radley’s stayed shut up in the house all this time. It’s because he wants to stay inside.”
~Harper Lee

(7)
“It’s not time to worry yet.”

Thank you so much for sharing such a sweet thought. I loved that one line a lot as well. And, why you wanted to name your son Atticus, makes complete sense to me. Atticus is the kind of character that makes deep impact & his words stays with you for a long long time.
Love & best wishes ❤︎

What a good idea, sharing a passage from a book that moves the reader rather than offering a critique. I read this book too many years ago to recall specific text, but this makes me feel like returning to it.

What a wonderful way to review a book! To Kill a Mockingbird is a book that needs to be reintroduced to the younger generations. It is a timeless classic. Thank you for bringing it back though Harper Lee’s words. Keep writing these reviews and good luck with your blog. Jan

I have tried many times to read this book in its entirety. Maybe this year is the year I can push through! I like this format of a non-review – sometimes your favorite quotes say a lot about what the book’s message is and what it means to you. Love it!

Definitely one of my favorites. I just remember thinking back in high school it was going to be another book I wouldn’t get. But here I am years later thinking fondly of the characters with a message still poignant today.
